The API Office, a newly created function within Enterprise Holdings IT, is responsible for the vision, standardization, optimization and stewardship of Enterprise Holdings’ API practice. This highly strategic team will collaborate with Product Management, IT, Security, Vendors and Partners, and Executive Leadership to establish an API Store for use by both internal and external clients. This team will play a key role in increasing the sustainability, scalability and speed-to-market of our products and solutions, as well as create new possibilities not yet conceived.

As the Director for the API Office, you will partner with Executive and technical leadership to create the vision, direction, and strategic planning for EH’s API Domain Architecture; Security Policy and Standards; and Definition and Design standards. The API office will provide stewardship across IT solutions groups, IT architecture, Product Management, Information Security Office, Third Party Vendors and Partners, and Executive Leadership. As the leader of the practice, you will be charged with establishing and influencing an API-First Vision, owning and managing the API Catalog, identifying capability gaps, and anticipating future needs and capabilities. The API Office will champion API standards and practices across the global IT organization to guide technology decision-making into the future.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

  • Collaborate with Product Management, IT Solution groups, Vendors and Partners, Security, and Executive Leadership to establish an API Store, including the governance of API creation and potential use of Enterprise Holdings APIs made available to trusted partners or the public

  • Provide leadership for the API Office, including the API collection and standardization effort, and identifying opportunities to transform the architecture to provide for future sustainability and optimization

  • Define and build the API Practice including management, governance, support and operational processes and their related tools, standards, patterns, and guidelines, as well as assessing when and how to incorporate industry techniques in a timely manner

  • Partner to influence and advocate IT strategies, policies, principles and practices that are aligned with the operational strategy of the business

  • Lead and develop a team of Architects serving as API stewards

  • Scan the horizon for emerging management tools, skills, techniques and technologies, to ensure their timely introduction

  • Review and approve API designs from internal EHI teams

  • Understand technological requirements necessary to implement solutions as well as team’s ability to design them

  • Develop standards to measure progress of the API practice against established objectives such as revenue, expense management, utilization metric, delivery quality and customer satisfaction; while ensuring performance and timely achievement of goals and objectives

  • Demonstrate and continuously refine, deep knowledge of practice; work directly with and provide guidance, coaching, and mentoring to resources within area of practice

Required:

  • Must be committed to incorporating security into all decisions and daily job responsibilities

  • 9 or more years of related experience including proven API knowledge and expertise (APIM practices, operationalization of standards and capabilities) combined with technical oversight of company-wide API development

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Management Information Systems, or related field

  • Previous experience implementing API portals or Experience in working with any one of the following technologies Kong, AWS API Gateway, Google Apigee, MuleSoft

  • Hands-on experience leading the development or developing RESTful, JSON, SOAP or methods
